Everyday at 7:00pm while sitting at my kitchen table in Brooklyn, I open my window to clap and yell encouragement for New York’s first responders. It’s a super small gesture that I do because I know I’m not about that life. I’m being real. I enjoy chilling in the comforts of my apartment so more power, prayers and blessings to the first responders.
After the “Clap Because We Care” at 7 pm, join New Yorkers in a citywide singalong. Tonight, New Yorkers will belt out Bill Withers' "Lean On Me" from their windows for a giant singalong.
Led by the all-volunteer Peace of Heart Choir, the communal singalong called "New York Sings Along" kicked off last Friday with Frank Sinatra's classic "Theme from New York, New York. It reached more than 160,000 people via Facebook and more than 9,000 people participated via its Facebook Live stream.
This week's song is "a karaoke favorite with a message for our times and a truly fun song to sing," according to organizers on their event's Facebook page.
To participate, head to New York Sings Along on Facebook or tune into WBAI (99.5) or WKCR (89.9 FM and wkcr.org) at 7:02pm to help you synchronize with everyone else. (They will not be streaming it on Facebook Live this week.) Then, just lean out your window, or head out to your terrace, and raise your voice!
If you need help with the lyrics, the organizers suggest following along with azlyrics.com or on youtube.com.
