Kenzo‘s head designers, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, just debuted a quarterly publication as an effort to add additional perspective to the label. Each issue will explore the latest collection through the perspective of a variety of up-and-coming photographers, filmmakers and other creatives.
Kenzo folio No. 1, titled “Gidi Gidi Bụ Ugwu Eze” (unity is strength), puts a focus on the Igbo people of Nsukka, Nigeria. The issues’s photography was handled by Ruth Ossai, who captured the community’s youth going about their everyday lives.
The project also includes a film directed by Akinola Davies Jr., who filmed individuals in the market, getting their hair done and riding motorcycles, all while wearing Kenzo’s spring 2017 offerings.
Components of the project will be displayed at an exhibition held in Kenzo’s London store from April 27 through May 10, 2017. The first issue of the publication will also be available.
