Fly Fashion: ‘The Hills’ Whitney Port offers clothing line Whitney Eve at NY Fashion Week
16 FebWhitney was always my fave from MTV’s “The Hills” and “The City,” and her California roots mix with her glamour girl image came through as the star debuted her Whitney Eve fall collection Wednesday at New York Fashion Week.
Her line was flirty, sleek and fun. The inspiration came from an antique kaleidoscope she found in her grandmother’s house. Port launched the collection in 2008. This was her first runway show under the Lincoln Center tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Whitney sent about two dozen pieces down the runaway while Tyson Beckford looked on. The show started with Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls),” which set the tone that this line was going to be super-feminine. Dresses were floral and flowing, tops had ruffles at the sleeves, pieces were sheer and others had large glittery polka dots. Hemlines were short in the front and then longer in the back. Whitney added gold safety pin brooches and wallet chains to accessorize the looks.
Whitney also played M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls” while models graced the runway.
Fly Fashion: Cassie In Marques Almeida Cut Out Jeans
16 FebDiddy’s boo Cassie hit 106 & Park yesterday to debut her new video for ‘King of Hearts.’ She paired an animal print top, studded Christian Louboutins and Marques Almeida Cut Out Jeans. Marques Almeida debuted the Extreme Cut out denim last year during their Spring 2012 show at London’s Fashion Week.
If you’re feeling the jeans but truly believe you can make them yourself, check out one of my favorite YouTube Channels from a fellow Baltimorian, Julia of Itsbiltzzz. She demonstrates how to deconstruct denim and how to create areas of shredding/distressing on your jeans.
Fly Fashion: Socialite, 95, Collapses at Fashion Show and Dies
16 FebDeath at a fashion show?
Sitting in the front row of the designer Joanna Mastroianni’s show, Zelda Kaplan, 95, a fixture of Manhattan night life, collapsed on Wednesday and was later pronounced dead. According to the New York Times, “Ms. Kaplan was known for her presence on the arts scene and at parties. She was the subject of a 2004 documentary, “Her Name is Zelda.” Material for the film described Ms. Kaplan’s evolution from a “typical suburban housewife” to “a beloved and eccentric creature of New York night life.”
